Tactics for learning to handle different situations

Even with a parent/supervisor's guidance, unfamiliar or difficult situations can be scary for everyone in the car. The more confident you are when faced with these situations, the safer everyone will feel.

It's ideal to get as much experience as possible. But there's a limit to the number of different experiences a learner driver can have on their L's. So you also need to learn adaptability. You can do this through purposeful practice.

Here are some tactics for becoming adaptable and learning to handle different situations quickly:

• Proactive tactics - for when you know you could be driving somewhere new or difficult
• Responsive tactics - for when you have time to think things through
• Reactive tactics - for when you feel confused or under a lot of pressure
