I’m having trouble learning
Tackle this problem early. Get perspective on the issues
involved and take action so that you can start learning at
your optimum. Here are some things to think about:
It should be hard but not painful
Learning to drive should never feel really easy. Meaningful
learning takes sustained effort. Real learning means going outside
your comfort zone! However, learning to drive should not be a bad
experience or cause you to feel dumb or silly.
Make sure you and your parent/supervisor are compatible
If this is the case it's possible that your learning style just
doesn't match with your parent/supervisor's or instructor's
teaching style. This is OK. You might choose to try
getting the best out of the lessons anyway, once you've worked out
that this is what's going on.
Communicate as best you can
If your supervisor is a family member or you know them well, you
might be able to work it out by talking out the
difficulties. Have a look at our page on communicating
well.
Otherwise, you might choose to look for another teacher. These
choices can be difficult, but the main thing is that you learn
well, because safe driving is too important to compromise.
