keys2drive is providing a free Lesson to learner drivers, which brings the learner driver and the supervising driver (usually mum or dad) together with a keys2drive accredited professional driving instructor.

Funded by the Australian Federal Government, the free lesson introduces the keys2drive coaching approach ('Find Your Own Way'), with examples of how the parent/supervisor and learner driver can use this approach when learning to drive.

Aims

  • keys2drive equips supervisors with a practical coaching approach they can use throughout the learning-to-drive journey.
  • keys2drive helps learner drivers prepare for P-plate driving and beyond, but focuses particularly on remaining free of harm during the first 6 months, when risks are at their highest.

keys2drive encourages aware, sustainable, safe driving and is a great foundation for lifelong, self-guided learning.

What is the free lesson?
The keys2drive free lesson aims to change the way you drive by changing the way you learn. Sure, when you're learning to drive it's important to be shown the skills by someone with experience, but you also need to be able to 'Find Your Own Way'. That way, once you've passed your test, you'll know you've got what it takes to make the right choices whenever you need to.

The keys2drive free lesson is not intended to replace normal driving lessons. It should complement them by empowering learner drivers to Find Their Own Way to becoming safer drivers.

keys2drive is a revolutionary approach to learning road safety and the free lesson is an opportunity for the learner driver, instructor and supervisor to learn this approach together. Participants get lots of great advice and information about how to practise and what to aim for.

What you get from the lesson
Parents/supervisors and learner drivers gain the confidence to practice their safe driving, and are trained in the best ways to practice.

Who is the free lesson for?
The free lesson is for anyone on their L's, together with their parent/supervisor (the parent/supervisor is the fully licensed driver who usually accompanies the learner when they drive). Only learner drivers are currently eligible to apply.

Why should the parent/supervisor be there?
Because supervisors are learning too. The free lesson gives them realistic confidence to help the learner driver safely take control of their own learning. If you're a parent/supervisor, you can encourage your learner driver to apply themselves or register for the free lesson on their behalf.

The aim is to help the P plater drive for six months without hurting themselves or others. It's a goal that builds the skills necessary to drive safe for life.
