Car essentials
What to carry in your car
Here’s a list of a few basic essentials you should carry in your
car to help you get through emergency situations:
- spare tyre – make sure your spare is in good
condition, the right size and correct air pressure
- jack and wheel brace/wheel wrench – it’s a
good idea to give these items a test run before at home so you can
be sure they work and that you know how to use them
- car manual – full of both handy and essential
information
- roadside assistance card – this will give you easy access to
your auto club’s phone number and your membership details
- tool kit – you can buy cheap and compact tool
kits from auto shops
- first aid kit – you can pick up a ready-made
kit from any chemist
- torch and spare batteries
- blanket – to keep warm in emergencies. Also
useful to lay on the ground if you have to get down and dirty to
change a tyre
- mobile phone and car charger – especially at
night or on the long open road
- a litre or two of water - for drinking,
or to cool down an overheated radiator
- cleaning cloth – to wipe your windscreen so
you can see or clean your hands after you change a tire
- map/street directory/GPS – whatever you can
get to make sure you always know where you are
- jumper leads – to revive a flat battery
