About keys2drive
Statistically, learner drivers are the safest drivers on the
road. The moment they get their P’s and begin solo driving, their
risk jumps dramatically.
keys2drive is designed to help improve driver safety by
fostering a partnership between learners, their supervising drivers
and professional driving instructors.
For driving instructors, this is an opportunity to take a
leadership role. Becoming a keys2drive accredited driving
instructor enables you to provide an extra level of support for
learners, adding your skills and experience to this exciting
initiative in Australian driver safety.
keys2drive is an Australian Automobile Association
(AAA) initiative; the Australian Government has committed $17
million over a five year period to implement the program.
keys2drive comprises three key
parts:
- One free professional lesson by an accredited driving
instructor for learner drivers (accompanied by their
parent/supervisor). This lesson provides information and strategies
for managing the early solo driving.
- This website, offering rich learning experiences and supporting
information for young drivers and their supervisors to supplement
what they learn in the free lesson, as well as comprehensive
support and resources for driving instructors.
- An accreditation scheme for driving instructors who wish to be
part of the program, involving initial training and ongoing
professional development and operating in accordance with a code of
practice (developed in consultation with the driver training
industry).
