Who is
the free lesson for?
The free lesson is for anyone on their L's, together with their
parent/supervisor (the supervisor is the fully licensed driver who
usually accompanies the learner when they drive). Only learner
drivers are currently eligible to apply.
TO be eligible for a keys2drive free lesson the
learner driver MUST hold an Australian learners permit. Holders of
international driving permits upgrading to an Australian licence
are NOT eligible for a keys2drive free
lesson.
Why should the parent/supervisor be there?
The parent/supervisor is learning too; the free lesson gives
them realistic confidence to help the learner safely take control
of their own learning. If you're a supervisor, you should encourage
your learner to apply.
What does “parent/supervisor” mean?
“Parent/supervisor” refers to the fully licensed driver who
usually accompanies the learner when they drive.
How do I get a free lesson?
Lessons can be booked by learner drivers, or by
parents/supervisors on behalf of eligible learners.
Register with
keys2drive and then sign
in to obtain a free lesson ID. Search for an accredited keys2drive
driving instructor in your area and give them a call
to book in a time.
What happens in the free lesson?
During the 60 minute free lesson, your keys2drive
accredited driving instructor will run through the
keys2drive learning approach and offer examples of how you
can use it when learning to drive.
The rest of the time can be used as practice time or to further
explain the coaching approach – whatever will be most helpful to
you.
What do I need to bring to the lesson?
Learner drivers need to bring their learner’s permit/learner
licence, and their Free Lesson ID. Remember to bring your glasses
if you need them to drive.
Parent/supervisors must bring a current Australian’s full
driver’s licence.
What is a free lesson ID?
When a learner driver registers with keys2drive or is
registered by their parent/supervisor, they are assigned a unique
numerical code – a ‘free lesson ID’.
The free lesson ID needs to be quoted when booking a lesson, and
again at the lesson itself.
Once you have been assigned a free lesson ID, you can retrieve
it at any time by signing in.
What if I can't make it to the lesson?
If you are unable to attend the free lesson you have booked,
contact your driving instructor and let them know at least 24 hours
in advance. If you provide 24 hours notice, you will be able to
re-schedule the lesson.
What’s the catch?
There isn’t one. keys2drive is an Australian
Government-funded program designed specifically to help new drivers
avoid harm in their first six months on P's by preparing them for
the realities of P plate driving. The free lesson is one of the
central initiatives of keys2drive.
All you need to do is book and attend your free lesson to
receive the tools to help you drive safely for life!
